Digital face and centering data acquisition

ZEISS VISUFIT 1000 for optometrists

The challenge

Merely suitable correction lenses are not sufficient in order to enable good vision. It is also crucial how the glasses are centered in the frame and to the eyes. ZEISS introduced the first video centering system as early as 1992. With the development of a new digital system for the generation of high-precision 3D models, ZEISS has set itself the goal of ushering in a new era of digitized customer consultation and centering.

ZEISS

ZEISS is a global technology group in the optical and optoelectronic industry. The Vision Care division is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of spectacles and ophthalmic instruments.

How we helped

Since the beginning of 2016, XITASO has been entrusted with the task of developing software components for VISUFIT 1000, from prototype to market maturity in close agile and consulting cooperation with the client.

  • Design and implementation of the software architecture of the entire system
  • Implementation of hardware and data interfaces
  • Development and integration of complex measurement and centering algorithms
  • Further development of the practice-oriented user journey with intuitive interfaces for iPad and PC

VISUFIT 1000

ZEISS developed a multi-camera system that uses nine cameras to create a realistic three-dimensional digital twin of the head for the exact extraction of the centering data. The diagram shows the basis for the various applications which the VISUFIT 1000 system offers the optometrist/optician.

The software co-developed by XITASO controls the measuring system and allows the optometrist the exact centering of the glasses with only one recording.
The visualization based on the high-precision 3D avatar realized by ZEISS, guarantees an impressive customer experience and enables the optimal centering of glasses, even those that obscure parts of the eye.

In addition, the software serves as a platform to further digitize the processes around centering and frame selection in the future. Also in the future, virtual spectacle lens fittings and frame customization will be supported thanks to the detailed measurement data acquisition.

The integration of VISUFIT 1000 into VISUCONSULT 500, which allows the operation of ZEISS optometrist devices from the initial spectacles consultation right up to the ordering process, has created an expandable platform for the digitization of the optician’s business, with the support of XITASO.
