Operators and operating companies of car wash facilities face the urgent challenge of seamlessly digitizing their business processes and consolidating data from diverse business areas. WashTec’s customers aim not only to transform payment and authorization processes but also to leverage data for in-depth reporting and monitoring, as well as to efficiently control machine actions remotely.

To meet these demands and gain a true competitive advantage, WashTec required a highly connected solution. The core task was to transform the existing solution into a scalable and high-performance cloud infrastructure—one distinguished by its ability to flexibly and rapidly implement new application scenarios and integrations.

WashTec AG is a manufacturer of vehicle washing systems headquartered in Augsburg. WashTec is the global market leader for complete solutions and services in the field of vehicle washing, with subsidiaries and distribution partners in over 80 countries.

How we helped

Following a comprehensive technical analysis of the existing system and a precise assessment of the current state, XITASO and WashTec jointly developed the vision of a central interface. The goal was to abstract the complexity of the underlying WashTec systems for integrators and enable a simple, scalable, and secure integration for API users. By implementing a microservices architecture and leveraging Kubernetes, the team was able to flexibly respond to dynamic load fluctuations and design the infrastructure to be more efficient and cost-effective.

To ensure operational continuity during the development phase, XITASO established advanced monitoring and logging mechanisms and implemented a continuous integration pipeline.

The mywashtec.api is the centerpiece of WashTec’s digital transformation. This API provides access to all relevant machine data and status information (IoT), configuration data, and contract data, and it revolutionizes digital ticketing (the digital issuance and management of wash authorizations).

Through this comprehensive abstraction and the ability to both read and write relevant information, WashTec is creating new digital business models and services that give them a clear competitive edge and reinforce their leading position in the market.

The APIs are used by both internal systems and external third-party providers, enabling a wide range of application scenarios:

a service portal for employees and operators who want to access information about their systems or perform remote configurations
integration into existing customer software
integration of car wash and sales into mobile apps, POS systems, webshops, or the in-car infotainment system
provision of real-time status information for reporting and monitoring systems

State-of-the-Art Infrastructure & Architecture

Event-driven Architecture
The event-driven architecture made it possible to map business processes of WashTec’s customers that rely on real-time workflows and responsiveness—such as initiating a vehicle wash or sending fault notifications.

Kubernetes
Kubernetes technology efficiently orchestrates the cloud container infrastructure. This allows for flexible and rapid response to the significant, weather-dependent load fluctuations in the car wash business.

Monitoring
For operators, consistently high system availability is crucial. Using advanced monitoring tools like Grafana, issues can be detected early, ensuring smooth operation.

Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment
To continuously advance the digital transformation alongside ongoing operations, a CI/CD pipeline is indispensable. It ensures that new features and optimizations are delivered reliably and without delays.
