Seamless interoperability across heterogeneous Smart Factory systems

Real-time coordination for Autonomous Mobile Robots

The challenge

Omron Electronics delivers smart factory solutions for customers in highly demanding industries such as automotive manufacturing. In Omron’s customer factory, an existing production line had to be extended with Autonomous Mobile Robots in parallel with the current operations. The main challenge was the integration of multiple third-party systems using different technology stacks. At the same time, downtime had to be minimized, real-time communication ensured and operator safety always guaranteed. Due to the technical complexity and a very tight deadline, high-quality expertise was required.

Omron Electronics Iberia SAU

Omron Electronics S.A.U. is the Spanish subsidiary of OMRON Corporation, a global leader in industrial automation and robotics. Based in Madrid, the Robotics Division delivers hardware, software and engineering solutions for Industry 4.0 across several sectors like automotive and healthcare, among others.

How we helped

XITASO developed a tailored middleware solution that translates, coordinates and monitors data across all involved systems. The architecture was designed to integrate seamlessly into the factory’s existing operational production environment. We worked closely with Omron’s senior engineers using an agile, iterative approach and continuously incorporated new requirements identified during production line analysis. Our team was deployed onsite to support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and optimize runtime behavior. The resulting software exceeded the performance of the previously used solution while improving some of the previously existing functionality. It provides a modular and reusable platform that our customer can leverage for future advanced robotics projects using Autonomous Mobile Robots.

“Thanks to the many hours XITASO put into the project, we reached the goal with a development that seemed very difficult to complete in time. I believe the quality of the software developed has far exceeded expectations.”
