The challenge

Rigid and complex automation systems are increasingly struggling to meet the demands of dynamic markets with short product life cycles and growing competition. To realise the full potential of digitalisation and networking, control technology, IT and IoT must work together seamlessly. To this end, Bosch Rexroth has developed the fully open automation platform ctrlX AUTOMATION – a kind of modular system that provides all the necessary components to build comprehensive automation solutions. This challenging task required comprehensive support in the software development process.

How we helped

In close partnership, XITASO provides Bosch Rexroth with comprehensive support in further developing solutions from the ctrlX AUTOMATION portfolio. Drawing on our expertise in real-time software development, robotics and the Asset Administration Shell (AAS), we optimise control software and develop user-friendly HMI interfaces and specific algorithms for system optimisation. We are now working together on several parallel projects, including the development of the ctrlX MOTION API, which allows customers to add their own special commands, filters or kinematics to the standard robotic motion functions. We support the full range of applications, from non-real-time to true real-time requirements. Furthermore, we are also working on the Factory Orchestration Platform (FOP) for centralised control and workflow generation in the factory.

A complete automation solution

ctrlX AUTOMATION from Bosch Rexroth surpasses the classic boundaries between machine control, IT & the Internet of Things, thereby enabling unlimited automation. With a real-time capable Linux operating system, open standards, app programming technology, web-based engineering and comprehensive IoT connectivity, ctrlX forms the basis for future machine and robot control systems. The ctrlX World partner network complements the solution with a variety of apps and hardware components. The system is therefore modular, scalable and meets the requirements of virtually all applications.

Working hand in hand to achieve advanced industrial automation

As a long-standing partner for the development of control software, we have been intensively supporting Bosch Rexroth in the further development of ctrlX AUTOMATION since 2022. Our collaboration began with a project for ctrlX CORE, the scalable industrial controller for all automation tasks, and now includes three parallel projects with 13 XITASOnians, in which we work hand in hand with the Bosch Rexroth development teams.

Thanks to our extensive expertise in software development, particularly in the areas of real-time solutions, robotics and the Asset Administration Shell (AAS), we provide significant support for the expansion of the ctrlX AUTOMATION portfolio.

As part of this collaboration, our range of services includes the development of control software, including consulting, design and the testing of functions. In addition, we design user-friendly HMI interfaces, develop specific algorithms for system optimization and carry out performance measurements to ensure continuous improvements.

Through these diverse contributions, we collaborate closely with Bosch Rexroth to create innovative automation solutions that meet the high demands of the industry.

Bosch Rexroth’s ctrlX World is the open ecosystem that enables partners to develop innovative automation solutions for ctrlX AUTOMATION and to incorporate their own strengths and solutions through co-creation.

As a partner, we support both suppliers in the realization of their solutions for ctrlX World and users who wish to integrate ctrlX CORE as a controller into their machines and systems. Through our many years of developmental collaboration, we have gained in-depth knowledge of ctrlX AUTOMATION and its components. We can therefore offer you a wide range of services for ctrlX.
