The challenge
BHS Corrugated’s software landscape has evolved continuously over many years and now forms a stable foundation for the company’s success. This mature architecture made it possible to reliably map complex processes and sustainably increase the efficiency of plant control.
However, with the advance of digitalisation, requirements increased significantly – especially with regard to the development of a new, future-proof generation of control systems. New functionalities had to be implemented under considerable time pressure, based on extensive, historically grown code, which also represented the central source of knowledge for the business logic.
The strong coupling to existing control systems posed an additional technical challenge: these systems not only had to continue to operate stably, but also had to be seamlessly transferred to a modern, scalable software architecture. The aim was to create a basis that could be expanded in the long term and meet the increasing demands on performance, modularity and integration capability.
