Practical-Oriented Degree Program: Data Science B.Sc.

In the program with an emphasis on practical experience, you’ll perfectly combine theory and practice. You’ll apply the knowledge you gain in your university studies to real-world projects during your practical training phases. This way, you’ll learn not only why something works, but also how it works and how it’s done. During the 3.5 years of your bachelor’s program, you’ll complete your practical training phases at XITASO during breaks between semesters and during your internship semester.

You can also complete your Bachelor’s thesis in cooperation with XITASO; we always have exciting topics in the research area or from the project business. During your time at XITASO, you’ll work in an agile environment with a broad technology stack in interdisciplinary teams. This way, you’ll gradually gain more and more knowledge and be optimally prepared for the transition into professional life.

Structure of the Bachelor’s Program with In-Depth Practical Training and Course Content
The standard duration of study is 7 semesters. The Data Science program qualifies you to analyze complex data. Using methods from mathematics, computer science, and project management, you will create a clear basis for decision-making for stakeholders in companies and organizations. Thanks to your multidisciplinary skill set, you will serve as a key liaison across all areas of the organization. The program offers a strong practical focus and intensive support from the THA faculty team in small learning groups.

• You will contribute to the design and development of AI-based software solutions in an agile environment, gaining insight into best practices in AI and software development.
• You will be part of the team – participating in daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives – and learn agile collaboration in day-to-day project work.
• You will support the development of data pipelines, data warehousing, and ETL processes for the efficient processing of large datasets for AI applications.
• You will assist in the processing, analysis, and visualization of data to ensure data quality and identify patterns.
• You will support the training, monitoring, and optimization of AI solutions and contribute to continuous improvement.
• You’ll stay curious about the latest developments in AI and data science, share your learnings with the team, and continue to grow professionally through community activities, tech talks, and mentoring.

• You’re interested in studying Data Science (B.Sc.) at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences or have already started your studies and want to closely integrate theory and practice.
• You combine a strong interest in mathematics, statistics, and data analysis with a keen interest in computer science.
• You’re curious about machine learning and AI technologies and want to understand how data is transformed into real value in software products.
• You enjoy learning programming languages like Python and working with AI libraries (e.g., PyTorch, NumPy, Pandas) as well as tools from the AI ecosystem (e.g., MLflow, Amazon SageMaker, Databricks).
• You’re interested in the fundamentals of software development and want to understand how AI solutions are seamlessly integrated into software systems.
• You value quality and want to learn how clean code, good software architecture, and code reviews lead to better solutions.
• You work independently and take ownership of your tasks, and you have the ambition to continuously develop your skills.
• You have very good German and English skills (at least C1 level) to ensure clear and confident communication within the team and with our partners.
