Researcher/PhD student ML for sustainable electronics (m/f/d)

Want to know what holds your car together? Modern cars contain tens of thousands of solder joints in up to 150 electronic control units. Under the most adverse operating conditions, the solder joints in cars are supposed to last for years and ensure that, for example, LED headlights or sensors for autonomous driving take us safely to our destination. In our current research project MaWis-KI, you will find out how solder joints change during their lifetime. Ultrasonic microscopy, X-ray images, thermomechanical analyses and FEM simulations are available as data sources. You combine this data with the latest machine learning methods to develop sustainable electronics for the vehicles of the future.

In an agile and young research team, you can dedicate yourself full-time to this exciting research topic on the lifetime prediction of electronic components and thus pursue your own PhD project. We will actively support you in finding your specific topic and in its scientific realization together with the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt. With applied research, you will pave the way for future technologies in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning together with project partners from science and industry.

You can individually design your way of working with us. We are very flexible in terms of location (office or hybrid) and working time models – as best suits you and your work-life integration.

  • You will drive an applied research project together with partners from science and industry and help to open up future innovation topics.
  • You will work self-organized in an agile and young research team and take on responsibility.
  • You will pursue your PhD project in coordination with your team and your supervising university.
  • You publish and present your research results at international conferences and in relevant journals.
  • You will exchange ideas with our development teams,
    AI experts and research partners and find solutions for tricky challenges together.
  • You will supervise students (e.g., for their theses).

That makes you stand out

  • You have a completed master’s degree in the STEM field (e.g., computer science, mathematics, physics, etc.) with a good to very good result.
  • You have in-depth knowledge in software development and a very good understanding of machine learning, deep learning, data science and AI.
  • You are interested in new domains for machine learning.
  • You don’t want to just apply machine learning algorithms but understand them in depth and develop them further.
  • You have the ambition to constantly develop yourself and to share your expertise outside XITASO.
  • You like open and honest communication with colleagues and partners.
  • You give constructive criticism and accept feedback.
